Spaghetti, Tuna, Capers and Red Onion:

This is a delicious, easy to make recipe of a popular Italian dish. This dish is served around the holidays when meat is not allowed to be consumed. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve for instance. It is so delicious and you will find yourself making it often like we do. It’s a guaranteed favourite.


Spaghetti with Tuna, Capers and Red Onion

  • Spaghetti 320gm
  • 1/4 chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoonfuls Capers
  • Olives (Kalamata or sour), a handful
  • 2 cans tuna in olive oil drained
  • 1 Garlic clove unpeeled
  • Salt to taste
  • Parsley, chopped for garnish
  • Bread crumbs or croutons
  • Olive oil
  • Chilli pepper


  1. Prepare and put aside the following:
  2. Chopped red onion
  3. Chopped parsley
  4. Put water to boil, add salt and spaghetti when the water boils
  5. Makes the sauce as the pasta cooks:
  6. Put 2 tablespoonfuls of olive oil in frying pan, put on low heat and cover immediately till stewed to a golden colour.
  7. Stir in the capers, olives, chilli pepper, garlic
  8. *About 5 minutes before the spaghetti is cooked, add a cup of the spaghetti water to the sauce and stir, keep covered
  9. When the spaghetti is cooked, add it directly to the sauce in the pan and toss
  10. Remove the garlic clove
  11. Add bread crumbs, tuna and chopped parsley, toss
  12. Serve


Don't chop or peel the garlic, just poke holes so the flavour is released without the bitterness.
